glib is *full* of bytesex stuff..including swapping routines with
architecture-conditional speed-ups.

glib provides versions of these. I think network order is important
mostly when transmitting data over a network..in which case, it should
be used. What irc channels/servers do you frequent?

In my paid work I need to support code on *lots* of unixes. glib has
proven quite robust. Only today have I started to realize how useful
it can be for audio routines as well. :)
Also, you were asking about dynamic loading. See the dlopen(),
dlsym(), etc man pages.
