I have already implemented this and it works very nicely. I do it from
the shell, using conventional pipes (or named pipes) and sockets as
transports for the connections. Take a look at my NetMIDI toys
(http://patriot.altavista-software.com/~div/xfr/); I'll have a decent web
page for them soon.
