What does this function do, exactly?
If it reads the current cycle count (in samples or whatever), it's
useless for sensor threads anyway - it'll only update once every
cycle.
I assume this is not the case, but that it reads the TSC and converts
into a timestamp using the engine's time base. That still means you
have to preempt the engine for it to make much sense...
