On a 550Mhz computer, almost the lowest you can get nowadays, a 74
reflection reverb for 44100 2 channel audio in doubles uses about 25% of
the CPU time. Conversion of 44100 2 channel audio from ints to floats,
2 additions, limiting, and conversion back to ints uses about 5%. The
only reason to use ints is if you want to learn integer techniques,
which can be interesting in itself, but if you want your software used
as an audio tool you'll reduce your workload and drastically improve
quality using floats.
