There will be no (easy) open-source and/or GPL drivers for these
cards. RME told me that they have signed NDA's with some large
companies who use these cards. They are not permitted to give us the
information we need to write drivers. Reverse-engineering would be the
only possibility, and that would be hard.

For those who don't follow alsa-devel, the RME Digi9652 (Hammerfall &
Hammerfall Light) driver is now in ALSA CVS. It currently only
presents 1 PCM device with up to 26 *MONO* subdevices. Very few
applications will be able to use it, because very few applications
have any given any thought to the existence of a mono-only subdevices.
Although I could argue that they should, it seems a little pointless
and childish to do so. A later version (in a few weeks I suspect)
will present a set of stereo subdevices.
