Subject: [linux-audio-dev] Can GTK hack it? Plugin APIs? Audio streaming between apps?

Quick [?] techie question: is GTK really worth the effort? My only real
direct contact that I'm aware of has been an installation of GNOME (in
RedHat 6.1) that I uninstalled a couple of days later to return to FVWM
because it was just too slow and flaky without any apparent benefit. I
ought to admit that I'm not really up with the ultimate
aims/politics/development situation.
The relevance is that after three years of development my MN audio library
now has a sane API to the core logic (C/C++, sockets, poss also IPC) that I
can slap a GUI on top of and I'm wondering what toolkit to go for. I'd
pretty-much settled on Java but I'd be very interested to hear any
arguments in favour of GTK or suchlike.
Which reminds me - two other questions:
(1) Has there been any further agreement on plugin library APIs? I'm using
a rather OTT C++ one but it should be simple enough to write a wrapper to a
simpler C API. (I'm kinda hoping to be able to link in the excellent
Quasimodo opcode set - shouldn't be too difficult as long as people don't
mind.)
(2) Also, has there been any consensus on the separate issue of buses for
streaming audio and control data between apps/machines? MN has internal
support but I've not written the socket protocol yet.
Thanks,

Here my undo-list approach works better. As the "current situation"
is always stored in standard audio files, other apps can use them
directly, but only ecawave can perform undo.

I'd like to help, but I have my hands full at the time.
