Does the desire to have on-board SCSI simply stem from wanting to
conserve slots?
I ask because I've been consistently disappointed with on-board
controllers---they never seem to get firmware updates in a timely
fashion (and I've found firmsare updates to occasionally be important
to correct operation), connector space is often crowded, etc.
I, personally, would rather spec a motherboard with more PCI slots,
and perhaps a multi-channel SCSI card. INITIO makes them, as do
Adaptec and someone's got to have a board based on LSI's 53c896 (I
think it is).
Perhaps my experience is just biased, since I mostly build boxes with
high-end hardware for server situations where I want multipe SCSI
busses (usually multiple cards) for duplexing drives, etc.
Oh, and just an unsolicited plug for California PC Products
(http://www.calpc.com) rack-mount cases---again, I've used them mostly
for server installations, but they've got great cooling, and their
13-bay 8-space case can hold storage for days.
Mike.
