sometime in the last 24 hrs, i said that linux always reads in
page-sized chunks from the disk.
this is wrong. it reads in chunks of whatever blocksize the filesystem
is using. on large-ish partitions, ext2fs uses 4K blocks unless you
tell it not too, so by pure coincidence, the block and page sizes are
the same. but in general, fs blocksize need not be equal to the
pagesize.
