Hi all,
(I hope people don't start hating me for putting references to Windows-
based software into this list all the time :-),

the German "Keyboards" magazine has an article in its current issue about
their continuation of an old article series called the "Soundforum".
Accompanying this, they arranged, together with a programmer from Creamware,
to release for free a cut-down version of the "Reaktor" software synth.

It's a very simple synth with 2 oscillators, ring modulation, ADSR envelopes
and some more. Its advantage (for me) is that it's so simple that it can
even run on rather old machines (on my P133, I have to limit it to max 3
voices and 22050 hertz sample freq, but, hey, it's free).

Compared to the downloadable demo version of the full Reaktor application,
this one runs without annoying "bleep" sounds, run-time limitation or other
cripple-type modifications.

It's at http://www.keyboards.de/soundforum.htm. While that page is in german,
the program itself has an english GUI, so most of you should be able to
handle it. On that page they say that they are going to extend the list of
patches now and then.

Once again, while most of us probably won't use it very much, it might
serve as inspiration. I definitely like the look (and feel) of the knobs
and sliders. :-)

Frank
