if you're really claiming that lack of space indicates a fundamental
problem with GUI design, i think you're wrong. its not always
appropriate to partition a multitude of controllers into sub-groups
visible one at a time. it may also be that the window with the control
elements is not the main window, and you want to avoid obscuring too
much of that main window. etc. it just seems to broad to me to say "if
you don't have enough screen real-estate, your GUI design is wrong".

why ? just because its unfamiliar given people's experience with
windows and macos ?

ps. i find it ironic that when i had to pick a set of pixmaps to use
    with the MotionFeedback objects that ardour uses to build its
    LADSPA plugin GUI's, i decided to use sliders instead of knobs :)
