Given the sorts of introductory questions I ask on this list about
low-level sound API issues, I'm certainly not the right guy for this
job :-). Seriously, if I close my eyes and think about the organizations
who would shepard this sort of API through the standards process, it
would have to be a place that believed UNIX on the desktop was still a
viable thing for creative work, and that interoperability was a worthy
goal. Apple (with its forthcoming OS having a foundation in BSD) and
SGI (with Linux slowly replacing IRIX on their desktop creative machines)
are the right companies to lead this, and both companis do have a historical
respect for the standards process ...
