Hi!
I think there are two major positions there. Some people disagree
to support multiple types because this complicates the host as it
has to know about all types and probably do conversion between them.
Other people (you may count me here, too) just say, keep complexity
away from the host and put them into the plugins, i.e. if one wants
to do 256bit float, let them do it and make them provide their own
conversions as _plugins_! Btw. this is the way GLAME goes, there is
no intelligent host involved, but anything, including buffer management
is done inside the plugins. Very simple and very extensible.
