just to clarify: there is a BIG difference between *allowing* fine
adjustments with the widget and *representing* the result. the widgets
i use will allow arbitarily small changes to be made using the mouse,
but those changes won't necessarily be reflected in the widget
appearance.

to make me feel good, i note that the "v-pots" on the mackie digital 8
bus are the same way: you can do very fine scale adjustments with
them, but their positional indicator only has about 32-64 positions.
mackie uses a numeric display if you want to see the exact number you
set the parameter to.
