We are pleased to announce the release of PortAudio V16. PortAudio is a
free, open-source, cross-platform audio API for 'C'. It allows you to write
a 'C' program that can do real-time audio input/output on most major
platforms, without modification. The API is sufficient for commercial
applications, but is also very simple and useful for teaching purposes. A
tutorial for programmers and numerous example programs are provided.

PortAudio is an abstraction layer that sits on top of existing audio APIs.
It is efficient and does not add any latency of its own. Many developers
have contributed to this open-source project. We now support:

Windows: WMME, DirectSound, ASIO(alpha)

Macintosh: Sound Manager (Carbon compatible), Core Audio (alpha), ASIO
(alpha)

Unix: OSS (beta) for Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.

also SGI (beta) and BeOS (alpha).

PortAudio is available for free download from:
