I am targeting embedded devices. Thus esd and artsd are probably too big. The
device also has no ALSA (raw sound is output is via RS232). This leaves me
with "do-it-yourself" or jack.

Jack is much smaller than artsd or esd (I think?) but probably still larger
than a simple "do-it-yourself" solution. But, I dont understand jack
completly at the moment. Thus my other mail in jackit-devel asking for the
design document (I want to know the internals how the jack server interacts
with the clients -- especially with regard to low-latency and if it is
possible for my purposes to strip down jack even further). I will thus have a
closer look at jack in the next days.

Thanks a lot for your answers, Chris
