Because the hardware music device market moves a lot more
slowly than the software world. They're still selling samplers
that take SIMM memory upgrades, for crying out loud.

It's hard to get the big companies to agree on anything. To agree on
a replacement for MIDI? It'll happen someday, but who knows
how many more years... and of course there may be power struggles
a la DVD-A vs. SACD, or the better-known VHS vs Betamax...
