PT Free is impossibly buggy and doesn't support all of the features in PTLE.
It will not reliably play EVERY session created in the Windows version of
PTLE, much less the Mac version. It is not an option.

Not true. I have ProTools Free installed on a Windows box with no digi h/w
whatsoever. PT Free can import files from other versions of PT.
