bob mentioned issues with the serial port. i'd like to amplify
that. if you are using a serial modem (COM1, COM2) etc, and you don't
specify "EXPERIMENTAL" source support, you won't even have a chance to
build the serial driver. once you do build it, it won't work for PPP
(in my experience).
