With older soundcards, like ISA SoundBlasters that are
bristling with capacitors and resistors, it's often
easy to find the DC blocking capacitor and bypass it.

There are probably hobby electronics kits around (Maplin
in the UK, Vellemann in Germany?) for making ADCs and DACs
to connect to the parallel port.
