Given, that xmms has been in development for even longer, how comes,
that xmms has so little artistic problems, but so many technical ones?

Alsaplayer is my music player of choice for daily use, but yes, its
interface has quite a bag of problems. I would add, that playlist
contents cannot be edited conveniently from inside the application.

But this is not as important to me as having a rock-solid player
engine, that can be used over Jack as well as in OSS or ALSA mode.
This is something, that not many apps managed to achieve over the
course of lots of API changes in ALSA and Jack in its live time.

Technically Alsaplayer IMO is *the* reference player.
