I think that with how Steinberg is operating since their purchase you
won't see them doing anything that doesn't bring in immediate revenue.

I don't think they really care about owning the VST spec strategically,
but it would be work for them both to decide to make it open and to
distribute it. So I am dubious about that prospect.
