good, because nice is irrelevant for anything with even vaguely
realtime requirements.

actually, this is problem is not quite as simple as some people have
made out. i can't offer a good working solution myself because i am
still experimenting with it. if you don't need to timestamp incoming
events from your control unit or wherever, then just running
SCHED_FIFO but 1 or 2 priority steps below the JACK thread will be
fine. but if you need to timestamp them, it starts to get a lot
harder.
