Right! So here it is:

... So they are not similar, but actually same.

That is an understatement :) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib would be
ones friend to get going.

I said 0.98.1 sounds "funny" (as in clicks and cracks) compared to
0.99.0 and wondered what kind of magic happened inbetween? Many other
people have the 0.98.1 version distributed as RPM ready to experiment
with ... To file a bugreport when the latest and greatest version works
(here) is not so very intuitive.

Regarding "magic": How come jackd is not showing up in top except for
idle running low?
