What you are describing is basically extensions to the
technique of additive synthesis.
However, many of these same results can be achived at what
may be a reduced computation cost using extensions to FM
synthesis where both the carriers and the modulator are
complex sinusiods rather than real valued sines.
There was an AES Journal article (somewhere around 1998)
