Ok, you mention twice in your post that jackd is lacking in some regard.
But you don't mention what exactly is missing (i think i know what it
is, as we have spoken on irc about it), but i don't want to speak for
you.

As long as the problem is not adressed, none will be able to fix it..

P.S.: scheduling midi events to the right time inside a jack period is a
problem every softsynth needs to solve nowadays. Sadly the jack call
which eases doing this (namely jack_last_frame_time) still doesn't show
in the api docs on jackit.sf.net. jack_frames_since_cycle start is not
equivalent as there is an inherent threading problem with this call.
What do you refer to as clever hack in this respect?
