Can you please post the output of:
lspci -vvn | grep -1 0401

What you say above is certainly not valid for all SB Live, Audigy and
Audigy 2 sound cards. The snd-emu10k1 driver works for all those.

On all the Audigy 2's I have seen, it uses I2S for all outputs.
