Audio-over-Cat5 _will_ work. IF you send analog signals. But you have to
create the analog signals somewhere. And that somewhere is not the
network-interfaces of the router. And other network-interfaces can _never_
successfully receive the analog signal.
But by soldering a box (two actually) that connects an RJ45-connector with
some male and female XLR-connectors (or some line-jacks) you can use a
Cat5-cable as a multicore...
