yet thousands of VST plugins have been written where people had to worry
about precisely these issues, and a veritable industry has grown up
around it.

does VST address darren's desires? no, it doesn't. but keep in mind that
as time keeps ticking by, what used to be entirely acceptable "barriers
to entry" turn into problems that people want to solve.
