I haven't chosen mine for instance. Right now, I'm thinking about another idea,
which is getting more and more attractive to me: an abstract UI. This would
allow to compose a UI using pre-determined abstract widgets within a grid.
Here's an example:

<pluginUserInterface gridWidth="16" grigHeight="8">
  <knob port="gain" x="1" y="2" width="4" height="4" />
  <slider port="freq" x="1" y="7" width="6" height="1" />
  <waveform ...>
  <pad ...>
  ...
</pluginUserInterface>

The rendering would be handled by the (web or not ;) host.
