Hi, Frank:
I feel your pain... ;)
I apologize for not posting anything yet. The additions are fairly
extensive, and I still have work to do. I need to learn how to create
submenus in the menu structures (there are too many DSP and other
effects now), and I want to present the material in such a way that
you'll simply have to follow my directions, load up the new Scheme
files, and away you'll go.
We just recently reached the point where we can start applying the
effects to selection areas, not just whole files, simply by clicking on
a button in a widget. I'm really trying to make more of Snd's power
available via the mouse and the GUI, minimizing the need for learning
Guile/Scheme. Some things (like working in CLM with Snd) will likely
remain text-oriented, but I'm digging into the program to find just how
much can be made more visible and more easily accessed and controlled.
Here's a precis of what's been done so far:
1) Added graphic control widgets for the following effects:
Gain
Normalize
Gate
Add silence
Adaptive saturation
Amplitude modulation
Time/pitch scaling
McNabb reverb
Chowning reverb
Convolution
Echo
Filtered echo
Modulated echo
Flange
Contrast
Band-pass/reject Butterworth filters
High/low-pass Butterworth filters
Moog filter
Comb filter
Comb chord filter
Robotize
Wobble
Cross synthesis
2) Added menus and widgets for more control of marks and marked
areas
3) Added popup menus for selected area, whole file, the FFT display,
and the Listener
4) Some adds & ends things for my own use (SBLive recording input
channel control, panic buttons, and so forth)
The integration of selection area and marked areas has been greatly
enhanced, and we're still adding to that aspect of Snd control.
Finally a caveat: my version requires Motif, and I'm recommending
OpenMotif's 2.1 package. Sorry, but GTK cannot yet do what Motif can, at
least not very easily in Snd.
Btw, Snd's file support is terrific. I created 4-channel and 8-channel
files in Csound and loaded them without problems into Snd. Playback was
transparently folded into a stereo output through my SBLive. Perhaps
with ALSA stabilization I'll be able to achieve true multi-channel
playback ? 32-bit files can also be loaded, but I'm still working on
some display problems (my bad, I just haven't figured it out yet).
I've probably just made your anxiety much worse... ;)
Best regards,
