Have a look at sysreq.txt in the linux source tree.
It's saved my ass a couple times...

The number of beeps is significant. (Found this out when my first crap
motherboard started to die.) But IIRC the meaning of the beep count
may vary depending on the BIOS.

I don't have any particular reason to suspect your RAM, but it can't
hurt to test it, and bad RAM can cause weird and *nasty* problems.
If you're on an i386-like system, check out memtest86:
http://reality.sgi.com/cbrady/memtest86

Takes quite some time to run, but it's easy to do, and definitely
worth finding out.
