I've read, that closed cases have better ventilation, so I always put
the panels on.
But in another way Dave is of course right: The times, when harddrives
were the loud parts in a computer are definetly over, unless you use
SCSI drives, that were designed for servers in server rooms. And with
modern IDE drives SCSI isn't necessary anymore for audio work.
I use a special noise control case (www.aconto.de) and I can only hear the
power supply fan in my computer. When I was running my first latency test
lately, which stalled my maschine, I was worried if my box was still alive,
because I could not hear the drives working ;)
