The linux play command doesn't work
on my Red Hat 7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10
with SoundBlaster Live sound card.
I've created a .wav file from a cassette
tape:
rec --format=a --size=w --channels=2 --rate=16000
    --volume=1.0 myfile.wav
It creates OK, but
play myfile.wav is silent.
I've tried different methods, like using
   --format=s and --rate=8000 and volume=2.0
And I have created a raw file and used
sox to convert it to wav, but neither the
wav nor raw will play.
The sound server is working. I've tested
it in KDE control and I've played CDs with
the KDE CD Player.
Can anyone tell me how to digitize a cassette
tape song so that it plays back?
I've tried the Windows soundblaster software
and its useless.
This is very frustrating.
