hello to everyone in the list

i'm going to set up a machine to move
some midi controlled sounds through multiple channels.
i just had a look to RME audio and in particular to
Digi9636 with two 8channels expansion boards
(reducing the budget with only one machine
to manage all channels necessary for the job).
a friend of mine was unhappy of my proposal
cause he said that the expansion boards have
unbalanced outputs...

so, if i can ask some question:
- i'm quite a newbie... what's the real difference between
balanced (...servo balanced) and unbalanced outputs?
- are there some other multichannel audio boards you can
suggest me? ...possibly with balanced outs... :-)
and possibly to manage 16 audio channels...
- i'm studying Csound and... having used max in the past i
just had a look to pd, what you think it could be the best
to have realtime midi control of sounds over multiple channels?
- i thought only of "simple" moving of sounds across the speakers,
do you know of some other software to do "real" spazialization...
always with the possibility to control it via midi

hoping this question aren't a bother...
any type of advice is really appreciated
thanks
francesco
