This is it.
Last night SuSE 8.0 installed,
rpm -UvH k_lowlat-2.4.18-0.i386.rpm --force
rpm -UvH k_lowlat-2.4.18-0.src.rpm --force
reboot
sysctl -w kernel.lowlatency=1
cat /proc/sys/kernel/lowlatency shows that LL is switched on.
Very easy, also for musicians.

yep.
btw, there is a (slightly old) ll-kernel for suse available at
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/kernels/k_lowlat.*
it's almost 8.0-kernel with ll patches.
you need to turn on kernel.lowlatency sysctl
# sysctl -w kernel.lowlatency=1
as default, it's disabled.
