I have been unable to even get a response to this problem on the MusE mailing
list, but since it involves Alsa, perhaps someone here can shed some light on
what is the cause and some possible solutions:

Everything works fine with MusE, the MIDI program, but whenever I attempt to
alter an Audio System setting, either in its configuration screen or the Audio
Mixer, the program crashes with an exit and displays:

muse: pcm.c:823: snd_pcm_delay: Assertion `pcm' failed.
Aborted

This is with alsa 0.9.0rc3 and MusE 0.5.3b both compiled on the system and
otherwise working perfectly. Computer is RedHat with a 2.4.18-1LL kernel, dual
600MHz PIIIs and 512MB of RAM...

Thanks for any help!

Frank
