you could probably set something up with pd (www.pure-data.org) and gem
(http://www.danks.org/mark/GEM/) you could hack gem's particle demo to respond
to audio input for example.

we had some nice stuff working with spiralsynth modular and some mpeg visual
plugins, but that code still isn't released yet :(
