Creative Labs are slimy bastards:

1) They made the Live, claimed SPDIF digital I/O. Turns out the card
resamples everything to 48kHz/16-bit regardless of what you tell it to
do.

2) They make the Audigy, claimed digital I/O and 24/96 operation. Oops,
turns out it works just like an SBLive...

You'd be much better off saving for a low-end ymf-based card.

A Pope has a Water Cannon. It is a Water Cannon. He fires Holy-Water from it. It is a Holy-Water Cannon. He Blesses it. It is a Holy Holy-Water Cannon. He Blesses the Hell out of it. It is a Wholly Holy Holy-Water Cannon. He has it pierced. It is a Holey Wholly Holy Holy-Water Cannon. He makes it official. It is a Cannon Holey Wholly Holy Holy-Water Cannon. Batman and Robin arrive. He shoots them.
