You can't assume that all monitors from a manufacturer will sound the
same, or even similar.
Another good contender in the sub-$1000 range is the "little" mackie -
the HR624. I'm strongly considering buying a pair. They have deeper and
tighter bass than anything else I've heard in that price range, and the
mids and treble are balanced and not nearly as harsh as some other
monitors. SOme of the Event monitors are OK for the money but I found
their treble to be really nice on first impression, but a bit grating
after a while. I also checked out a bunch of KRK monitors and hated every
one. The Roland DS-90 seemed worth another listen, but the stupid store
had them rigged to a computer with no CD player so I couldn't hear them
with any familiar material.
All that said, I'm considering just buying a pair of PSB home stereo
speakers because they sound so damn good for so much less money.
Seriously, the little PSB Alpha is better than half the monitors you'll
find in stores.
Need an amp though.
