MusE is only a one month course, fewer features to learn :)
If you intend to use MIDI, both are well worth investing time & effort into.
MusE is a slightly lighter, poppier editor (It has a drum matrix) and doesn't
need jack to run. Rosegarden is mighty and has an excellent notation editor,
works well with jack and has several useful additional features.

Of course, following Steve's advice will require little extra study :)
