I had a PowerBook G4 with 1GB RAM and could not have
more than 3 instruments active in GarageBand. The
reason why GarageBand is so cheap ($42US when I got
it) is that it is designed to sell hardware.
I didn't compile LMMS, I installed it from Debian
Testing binary package.
