It's full of volksmusik phrases. If you want to get away
from that, you should perhaps study some to not do what
they do.
3/4 can only make it hard to get away from that. AFAIK
some belly dancing music uses wicked time signatures
like 9/8 or 7/8, so consider switching.
The chinese touch could be emphasized by working
out the pentatonic character, I guess.
Aside all that, there's some notes that drag against
the beat.
