I agree entirely. This is becoming a common problem :(
There are a number of places I go to hear new music. The best ones
never want you to register just to download/stream stuff, but somehow
people keep using crap, jump-though-hoops sites that want half your
life history before you can do anything :((
I can quite understand sites wanting some form of registration for
*uploading* stuff for spam protection etc. but that is a different issue
altogether.
Here are a few site suggestions.
http://www.box.net - definitely the easiest for one-offs. extremely user
friendly.
http://www.kara-moon.com/ - has a file size limit of 8mB. Nice
community based site
http://www.muzic.com/ - only mp3 format but lets you build up a
detailed song card. Very active site
http://www.archive.org - allows you to set up full album archives. Not
so easy to use and can be confusing for web newbies to download from.
http://lam.fugal.net/ - good for linux based music with space for some
text details, but only stores YOUR url
http://www.musicip.com/ - again only stores your url, patchy
turn-around.
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14 - the 'music cafe'.
Quite high profile *very* fast turnround. only stores your url.
