Hi,

Trained would be the right word!

As a (French) sound engineer myself, I can say that a sound engineer
cannot be trained on every specific equipment out there but *must* know
the generic principles behind these (How to use a mic/a mixing desk be
it analog or digital/an hardware or software based DAW ...) and be able
to use *any* equipment with little effort and a bunch of documentations.
That's also the work of the assistant from the studio to help him do
what he wants with whatever equipment is available at the facility.
Anyone that cannot get used to a new equipment in a matter of a few
hours is *not* a sound engineer and needs more training on the technical
principles of the equipments.

My thoughts...
