You can use beatrix with vkeybd :-) :
 - modprobe the ALSA "snd-virmidi",
 - set "midi.device=/dev/midi1" in "default.cfg" (beatrix's config
file),
 - launch vkeybd and connect it to the first virtual MIDI card created
by the virmidi module. You can use for example the "ALSA" tab of
qjacktcl.

Read the vkeybd manpage if you need more options (channels, octaves,
etc.)
