   I'm sorry, if this is not very finely grained, but maybe it can be a start.
   ALSA has a samplerate setting, which should look somethying like this:
samplerate 48000
   Now you can use this together with the plug type. So make your pcm device
with the samplerate and then make another pcm-device, which is of "type plug"
and where the slave is your samplerate hardcoded device. This should work.
   So I think your problem might have been, that you missed out on the wrapping
in a plug device.
