Ah yes, I know the G-Town stuff and yes, the reverb is huge, isn't it! I
don't think I've ever used any of the set so far because the 'verb is a
bit off-putting.

Bypassing the reverb on the percussions sounds like a good idea: unless
gating to remove the recorded 'verb provides useful results.

With the clarinet, it was more that the length of each note sounded
almost perfectly the same. I always think of the clarinet as a very
expressive instrument, especially in a context like yours. Perhaps it's
not the note lengths but more the timing; maybe a bit of push and pull
in the part might be of benefit. Just a thought.
