[LAU] Denemo insisting on inserting drums

I'm enjoying Denemo so far. But there are annoyances and frustrations too.

For one, when I use the keyboard to input notes by typing "3" to input an 8th note, I get DRUM notes, not the instrument intended. And the notes are grey, not black. Why?

Is this a bug in Denemo or am I doing it wrong?
