I actually tonight started porting the VST plugin kn0ck0ut(
http://www.freewebs.com/st3pan0va/) to LV2. It seems like it does a pretty
good job (I can find posts of people raving about it, although I haven't
tried it out myself).

You can see it here: https://github.com/jeremysalwen/kn0ck0ut-LV2 although
it is still a ways from completion.

When it's done hopefully it will give you exactly what you want.
