My hardware isn't exactly new either, and low-end, but for me with very
recent linux the intel drivers work just fine. lspci says:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 03)

Newer intel chips likely use completely different drivers, but the
hardware from a couple of years ago works fine.
